Pune may not host IPL matches next season

Pune may miss out on hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches next season due to a dispute between the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) and the Sahara Group after the association terminated the contract with the latter over a non-payment issue.

According to a report in DNA, the owners of the franchise Pune Warriors India (PWI), who earlier got an interim relief from the Bombay High Court on Tuesday against the association’s move, are unperturbed in regards to the change of the venue for the league’s home matches.

The director of the Sahara Adventure Sports Limited and Sahara Pariwar spokesperson Abhijit Sarkar was quoted by the newspaper as saying, “It is too early to talk about it. Let us see how things shape up.”

The report further suggests that Sahara might explore options such as Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai as possible venues for hosting their league matches.

Earlier, franchises such as Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab were forced to play home matches in other locations.
