Sohab Gazi, Abdur Razzak restrict West Indies to 199 in first ODI at Khulna

Sohab Gazi, Abdur Razzak restrict West Indies to 199 in first ODI at Khulna
Bangladesh have had a wonderful start to the limited overs-leg of the West Indies tour of Bangladesh as they bowled out them out for 199 in the first ODI at Khulna.Debutant Sohab Gazi was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of four for 29 while Abdur Razzak did well for his three for 39.

The visitors had an uncanny slow start as openers Lendl Simmons and Chris Gayle took time to get their eye in. The big hitting Gayle began the fireworks when he hit Mashrafe Mortaza for one six and two boundaries in the fifth over and repeated the same off the bowling of Abul Hasan in the 10th over. Despite two big overs, West Indies managed just 47 runs off the first 10 overs.

The first over after Powerplay got the home side a wicket as Mashrafe Mortaza trapped Lendl Simmons in front of his stumps as the latter failed to read a slower one and missed it completely.

Debutant Sohab Gazi struck gold in his first over as he got rid of the dangerous Chris Gayle. Gayle was looking to clear the field but failed to do so as Tamim Iqbal took a wonderful catch at long-on to send Gayle back to the pavilion.

Gazi then struck again in his second over of the match, this time dismissing Marlon Samuels. Samuels was looking to drive a delivery that held its line and as a result the outside edge went to Mahmudullah at first slip who managed to hold on to it on second attempt to reduce the visitors to 50 for three.

Keiron Pollard then joined Darren Bravo in the middle and this duo put on a 50-run stand in 9.1 overs before Pollard threw his wicket away to a rather ordinary delivery from Abdur Razzak. Razzak’s delivery was short, there to be hit but Pollard hit it straight into the hands of Mortaza at mid-wicket.

Devon Thomas then joined Darren Bravo but just a few deliveries and a terrible mix-up later, Bravo was left stranded mid-pitch as Bangladesh ran him out to reduce the Windies to 102 for 5.

Captain Darren Sammy and Devon Thomas put up a brief fightback but the home side were determined to cause an upset as they kept chipping away wickets at regular intervals. West Indies lost their next three wickets for just 30 runs and were reeling at 133 for eight with all their recognized batsmen back in the rut.
But a sensible innings from Sunil Narine helped rescue the Windies as he and Ravi Rampaul put on 57 runs for the ninth wicket. The Windies were eventually bowled out for 199, setting a target of 200 for the home side.

Brief Scores: West Indies 199 allout in 46.5 overs (Sunil Narine 36, Chris Gayle 35; Sohab Gazi 4 for 29) vs Bangladesh
