Alastair Cook praises England bowlers after win over South Africa

Alastair Cook praised England bowlers after his side registered their first win over dominant South Africa, in their third One-Day International at the Kennington Oval on Friday.

England registered a win by four wickets at the Kia Oval to level the five-match ODI series 1-1.

“It's always nice to get a first win over South Africa in any form. There were a few nerves and on this wicket you couldn't take it to them too much. It was pleasing to cross the line and make it 1-1,” Cook was quoted as saying by the Mail.

Cook added, “A lot of character was shown out there. It was a really good bowling performance. All the lads fielded better and bowled better. You wouldn't want to chase more on the wicket. Morgan and Trott both had a good performance.”

Talking about the performances of James Tredwell and Jade Dernbach, who replaced Graeme Swann and Tim Bresnan respectively, Cook said, “We know what James Tredwell will do for us and Jade came in and took wickets for us at a crucial time."

"It's always nice when we don't let them build partnerships," he concluded.
