Gambhir averages over 40 with a strike rate of 86.13 in ODIs. The batsman made his ODI debut against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2003.
The dashing opener, who is known to play crucial knocks under pressure, played a pivotal role in India’s the 2011 World Cup triumph as he scored 97 runs in the finals under pressure against Sri Lanka.
Gambhir recently proved his captaincy credentials as well when he helped the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win its maiden T20 trophy. Many former cricketers have praised his leadership skills.
The 30-year old batsman has amassed over 3000 runs in Test with an average of 45.26 in the 48 matches that he represented India.
