SRI LANKA PUT PAKISTAN UNDER HUGE PRESSURE

Sri Lanka 472 (Sangakkara 199no, Dilshan 101) v
Pakistan 48-5 (Randiv 2-5, Kulasekara 2-15)

DAY TWO

Sri Lanka remained in total control of the first Test against Pakistan in Galle, reducing Pakistan to 48 for five after being dismissed themselves for 472.

Kumar Sangakkara missed out on a double-century, ending unbeaten on 199 when Sri Lanka were bowled out having resumed the day on 300 for two.

The left-hander faced 387 balls, hitting 14 fours and two sixes before eventually running out of partners as Pakistan rallied through Saeed Ajmal (5-146) and captain Mohammad Hafeez (3-55).

Ajmal removed Mahela Jayawardene (62), Thilan Samaraweera (6) and Angelo Mathews (0) as Sri Lanka were unable to bat as impressively as they had on the opening day.

Indeed, only Prasanna Jayawardene, who made 48 in 87 balls, offered Sangakkara much in the way of support. Hafeez removed him, Nuwan Kulasekara (0) and Nuwan Pradeep (0) while Rangana Herath was run out without scoring.

Abdur Rehman, who bowled well on the opening day without reward, finally got a wicket when he caught and bowled Suraj Randiv for eight.

If Sri Lanka's lower order batting put in a disappointing performance, there were more low scores to come as Pakistan top order crumbled.

Nuwan Kulasekara struck quickly to trap Taufeeq Umar in front for nine and then had Azhar Ali caught behind by Prasanna Jayawardene first ball.

Hafeez fell next when he was trapped in front by off-spinner Randiv for 20 and sending out Ajmal as a nightwatchman failed as he was caught by Tharanga Paranavitana for a golden duck.

It got worse for Pakistan when Asad Shafiq was caught by Jayawardene off Herath for a duck, leaving Younus Khan unbeaten on 15 and debutant Mohammad Ayub on one, at least managing to score his maiden Test run before stumps.

Kulasekara ended the day with figures of two for 15 and Randiv two for five.
