Dhoni-Raina partnership most crucial: Ravindra Jadeja

Man-of-the-Match from the second ODI at Kochi between India and England, Ravindra Jadeja praised the partnership between MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina as India secured a massive 127-run victory.

Ravindra Jadeja’s all-round performance was monumental as India levelled the five-match ODI series at 1-1.

After scoring 61 off just 27 deliveries, Jadeja came back to pick up two wickets at an average of 1.71, to win the Man of the Match award at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Despite a poor start, India managed to post a big total as Raina, Dhoni and Jadeja applied themselves and scored half-centuries each. After Raina and Dhoni steadied the ship for India, Jadeja consolidated with some powerful hitting towards the end of the innings as he smashed Jade Dernbach for 14 runs off the last three balls.

In an interview with bcci.tv, the youngster spoke about the game and his performance on the whole.

He spoke about the boost that this comprehensive victory has given the side and said that the team learnt from its mistakes in the first ODI. He also said that the team had discussed on not throwing their wicket away when a partnership was building and that’s what worked for them at Kochi.

Talking about India’s batting performance, he praised the crucial partnership between Raina and Dhoni and said it set the tone for a big total. He also spoke about being familiar with the ground and the conditions that helped him bat well in the final overs.

On young Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s early strikes, Jadeja said that it was very important as it eased the pressure on the team while defending the total.

He also said he was very fortunate and recalled the moment when Sachin Tendulkar handed him the Test cap and vowed to keep performing well and prove his worth in all formats of the game.
