ECB launches inquiry into Pietersen's text messages to Steyn, de Villiers

Kevin Pietersen’s future looks ambiguous after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) launched an inquiry involving the batsman sending text messages to Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers about Andrew Strauss and team-mates during the second Test at Headingley.

ECB sources revealed the board will decide on Pietersen’s inclusion in the final Test at Lord's next week.

South African management is said to have distanced itself from the issue, even though they accepted the players did receive message from Pietersen. However, they have said that contents were ‘just banter’, reported the Daily Mail.

If South Africa decides to stay away from the scandal, ECB will find it hard to prove Pietersen guilty.

England is trailing Test series 0-1 to South Africa and to ensure that they maintain their top position, they have to win the third Test at Lord’s.
