IRELAND AND AUSTRALIA MATCH ABANDONED BY BAD WEATHER

Ireland 36-3 (Lee 2-10) v Australia

One-Day International, Belfast

The one-off One-Day International between Ireland and Australia in Belfast was abandoned after 10.4 overs due to bad weather at the Stormont Ground.

Australia had made a flying start, Brett Lee taking two wickets in three balls of the first over but were unable to build on it, Ireland making it to 36 for three before the weather prevented any further play.

The game was always likely to be affected by the weather and although an early-morning inspection cleared the ground for play, the start was delayed.

Lee wasted no time in making up for lost time when play did begin, using pace and swing to bowl William Porterfield and Ed Joyce as Ireland slipped to nought for two.

Paul Stirling hit four fours to launch a counter-attack but he was other man to fall when he was caught by Michael Clarke off Patrick Cummins for 24.

When the rain arrived again, Niall O'Brien was unbeaten on 11 and Gary Wilson had yet to score.

Australia will now return to England for a five-match series of One-Day International which begins at Lord's on 29th June.
